The 2017–2018 fall semester Pre-Ballet classes with The Washington School of Ballet begins for young dancers ages 4–8. Students focus on the foundations of ballet.

This gallery talk will feature both Leslie Nolan and Dr. L. Erich Keel. Dr. Keel served as Head of Education for the Kreeger Museum until his retirement in 2013. Currently, he lectures on twentieth-century German art and leads art-themed study tours to Europe. Free.

September 8, 2017 - 4:00pm

The Washington School of Ballet will hold two auditions at the Athenaeum on September 8th for children ages 4–8 in preparation for their 2017–2018 school year classes.

For ages 4-5, registration is at 4:00 pm and the audition is 4:30-5:15 pm. For ages 6-8, registration is at 4:45 pm and the audition is 5:30-6:30 pm.

Children of all ages have the opportunity to meet a ballerina from The Washington School of Ballet. Discover how a ballerina prepares for a performance and ask questions about her experiences. Peter and the Wolf will be the theme of the event. Photographs with and autographs for the children are a part of the program.

Meredith Barber is a local historian and undergraduate at William and Mary. Through research at the National Archives, she has discovered previously unknown history during the Athenaeum's Civil War era including its employment as a logistics center by the Union Army.
